World Plumbing Day is an annual event that recognizes the role plumbing plays in public health and sanitation. The World Plumbing Council established it to highlight how proper plumbing systems contribute to clean water access, disease prevention, and overall quality of life.

Today is World Plumbing Day
Five years ago, The World Plumbing Council designated March 11th as World Plumbing Day, an annual international event celebrating the important role plumbing plays in the health and safety of modern society. The Council aims to educate plumbers and consumers around the world about proper plumbing procedures and conservation efforts, and reminds us not to take clean water for granted.
Because one in eight people in the world does not have access to clean water, an important goal of this day is to bring awareness about the plumbing methods and procedures used to ensure cleaner drinking water and sanitary facilities. Together with the World Health Organization, the World Plumbing Council created a publication titled “Health Aspects of Plumbing” to be distributed to those responsible for plumbing systems in countries where infections disease in water is common. Some of the topics the book includes are basic principles of safe drinking water supply, codes of practice for plumbing, standards for materials used in plumbing systems, storm water drainage, and design of plumbing systems.

The International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation (IWSH) invites schoolchildren across the world to participate in its poster contest celebrating the 13th annual World Plumbing Daytime — March 11.
The international poster contest is open to elementary/primary school students in grades one to six. The winning poster creator will receive USD $100, with USD $1,000 going to his/her school. The second-place prize is USD $50/$500, and third place is USD $25/$250. Handpick entries will also be featured on IWSH social media channels throughout the month.
The international plumbing community plays a vital role in promoting the link between good quality plumbing, environmental sustainability, economic prosperity, and, even more than ever during the display global COVID-19 pandemic, public health and hygiene. World Plumbing Time is a vital way to remember, highlight and promote that link.
An entry consists of a poster, U.S. letter size or A4 size, made solely by the entrant and inspired by World Plumbing Day. It must feature the wording PLUMBING IS ESSENTIAL. Only one entry per person is permitted.

IWSH World Plumbing Day Poster Contest
The winners of the 15th annual IWSH World Plumbing Day Poster Contest have been selected!
The winners are:
First place: Jonah Wan, sixth-grader, Mandarin Immersion Magnet School, Houston
Second place: Jack Lutes, sixth-grader, Lincoln Elementary School, St. Charles, Illinois
Third place: Isla Morgan, sixth-grader, Salem Public School, Elora, Ontario, Canada
Wan and his school will receive $100 and $1,000, respectively, for winning first prize; Lutes and his school receive $50 and $500, respectively, and Morgan and her school $25 and $250, respectively.
IWSH thanks all the participants for submitting their artwork demonstrating how young people interpret the importance of safe plumbing to their daily lives. IWSH conducts the poster contest, eligible to elementary school students worldwide, in concordance with World Plumbing Day, March 11, Every Year, Everywhere.
