It rains a LOT in Disney World.
Rain, Rain, Go Away
Thunderstorms, rain, and winds in the parks can cause discarded snacks in a flee for shelter; some transportation issues, like the Skyliner stopping with guests inside; and guests to hide out in dry places, away from the storm. However, we’re not ones to be easily deterred by bad weather. That’s why we opted to wear a Disney-brand poncho to see how it would stand up in a storm. We’re breaking down the good, the bad, and the surprising parts of our experience!
You can find Disney ponchos at most gift shops around the parks for $12, including tax (and there are also smaller ones for kids for $10). That price may seem steep, considering you can find similar ponchos at your local dollar store.
If you do want to avoid paying so much for a poncho, you may want to buy some ahead of time. You can get packs of ponchos beforehand to bring with you to the parks. They may be a bit thinner than the ponchos sold in the parks but most should do the trick!
What Should You Wear/Bring to WDW?
Are you planning a trip to Walt Disney World and trying to figure out what to bring? As a travel advisor, and a mom, and a frequent Disney goer, I am quite the expert when it comes to what to pack for a trip to Disney World. I have some tips I’d love to share with you that will come in handy while traveling with your family.
These are my superior 5 things to bring to the park that you may not have thought about:
1. Ponchos- With Florida’s unpredictable weather, you should absolutely bring rain ponchos. Yes, you can buy ponchos at Disney World, but they are costly ($12 a poncho) and reusable, so you’ll include to fold up a soaked poncho and carry it around. You’re much better off buying a bunch of cheap ponchos from the Dollar Store or Amazon, that you can discard. Get a bunch! They’re superb for putting on a moist bench or over your stroller.
2. Portable Phone Charger- You’re gonna be using the Disney Parks app and other Disney apps throughout the day and you’re not going to crave to worry about finding access to an outlet. Bring a portable charger so you don’t have to stress over that.
3. An extra pair of shoes- You might get your shoes wet from t
We all know that going on vacation can get pricey. But there is a way to save some money by bringing some things that you won’t want to pay top dollar for in the parks. Here are 10 Things to Bring and Not Buy at Walt Disney World.
Costumes
Kids 13 and under can wear costumes to a Disney park. Party supply stores and online stores are good places to find costumes. Fall is a great time to purchase a costume and it is usually more inexpensive than buying an outfit in a Disney gift shop.
Ponchos or Umbrellas
To say it rains often in Central Florida is an understatement. While the cast members put out the ponchos and umbrellas as soon as the rain comes, being prepared beforehand will save you money and is much more convenient. Some prefer ponchos while others, like me, prefer umbrellas. I have an umbrella that folds up small enough to fit in a small purse. You can find single use ponchos at your local Dollar Tree or other discount stores. Although they aren’t the same quality as the ones available at WDW, the convenience of being able to toss them when the rain stops makes up for that. You’ll spend over $12 for an umbrella or a single adult poncho at Disney

But I will just toss a wet dollar store poncho. What do you do with the disney ones, carry it around wet?

First off I will say that for my trip a few weeks ago I did bring ones I bought from amazonfor $1 each that had sleeves and a drawstring and was very suprised by its thickness and it was a day that had heavy downpours for the first half of the day and I did toss it and I'm actually shockingly considering just taking those again for my JULY trip which I know there will be plenty of rain drops to dodge.
With that said yes I absolutely carry a Disney poncho around wet and put it back on when I need it.
Key is that I have it in a quart size zip lock baggie and I take it off inside out and wrap it up and put it in the baggie and then when I take it out and put it back on I put it on flipping it right side out in the process.
Its works perfectly fine.
At the end of the day I hang it in the hotel room and its dry by morning. tThen I refold and take again.

Rainy day in Disney World
Florida is certainly known for it’s rainy afternoons, especially in the summer time. But you can run into rain any time of the year at Disney World. That’s why we recommend bringing rain gear with you to the parks so you’re prepared if (or when) it begins to downpour on you. Umbrellas are great, but we found a rain poncho that we would totally buy again!
We found these rain ponchos on Amazon and knew we had to grab one to try. We tossed it in our park bag and headed to the parks to test it out, and boy did it deliver! We noticed that the poncho is made of a material that is similar to a rain tarp, which we took as a good sign that it was going to hold up against a Florida rain shower. When we put i
